Fashion Trend : Rockabilly, Pinup and Psychobilly

Hello Dolls ~

Today post will be about three different styles but basted on the same concept and the concept is the 1940s through the 1950s fashion of that time. Between these 10 years,World War ll broke out and fashion died at this point because they needed the fabrics and materials to win the war.

These three styles are inspired by musicians, actresses, horror movies, models and pin up models at the time including Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Marlon Brando, Steve McQueen, James Dean, Bettie Davis, Grace Kelly, Vampria (Malia Nurmi).

The first style is Rockabilly, this style has been around since the mid 50s, since the style of music called rockabilly arose with musicians such as Elvis. 

Woman's Rockabilly style consists of A-line dresses and skirts, Tight fitted pencil skirts, capri pants, cute cut tops. Hairstyles like Victory Rolls, Doll bangs, etc. Red lipstick only, black eyeliner with wing tips, cat eye sunglasses.

Men's Rockabilly style is of rolled up blue jeans at the bottom, slicked back hair, motorcycle boots, white tanks and or t-shirts.

Second style is Psychobilly, still has the same concept as Rockabilly but they are into old monster movies, zombies, dead pinup tattoos. Influenced by The Misfits, The Cramps, Horrorpops, Bettie Page and Vampria.

Third and final look is Pinup (Burlesque), again still the same concept as Rockabilly and Psychobilly. Mostly girls are into this style, this is there lifestyle and their job. Inspired by the Pinup Queens of the past, this style of fashion and dance has nothing to do with being a Exotic dancer or any of that kind of nonsense, Its stripping but classier. 

Most popular Pinup/Burlesque girls are Miss Mosh and Dita Von Teese. 

Miss Mosh (Above) as been started modeling in 2006 and am now a fulltime freelance model and occasional performer. She loves modeling fetish, alternative, glamour, and almost everything in between. 

Dita von Teese the queen of pinup, been in pinup for 20 years. Has her own lingerie line, dress line at Bloomingdales, as walked on the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier and her line for Target in Australia. She is always at Fashion week every year for the last 5 years 

Fashion Brand Overlook : Wildfox

Hello Dolls !~

Today's post is about another fashion brand called Wildfox. 

"Wildfox is a vintage-inspired women’s knitwear brand based in Los Angeles. Originally co-created by two women inspired by a love for vintage tee shirts and their friendship, the brand continues this legacy under the Creative Direction of founding partner Kimberley Gordon."

This brand is known for their distressed sweaters, printed T-shirts and how soft their clothing is. Their clothing can be described to be like lounge or comfy clothing, most of what they sell are sweaters, lounge pants, sleepwear. But they have expanded their brand by designing a Jean collection, and kids. 

Their advertisement are shown to be shot to look vintage and bring us back to the 60s and or 70s, in which some of the dresses and clothing that Wildfox creates come from this era in fashion.

Wildfox product are priced between $50 to $250 depending on the product. Most expensive product is their sweaters and jeans but worth the price of the garment.

Fashion Trends : Babydolls

Today's Post will be about a new fashion trend it is called Babydolls. Babydolls are girls who dress in a mix of Pastel Goth, Lolita (Not Lolita fashion). This trend has starred up a new chance for lingerie designers to spring up and become the main accessory for this style 

Some of the brands that Babydolls wear are Kate, Nikki Lipstick, and Creppyyeha, they also like vintage Lingerie as well. They wear high heels, Garters, corsets, tutus, bras and panties, sheer dresses and overcoats.

The Baby-doll look started when Yeha Leung started her brand Creppyyeha in 2012, she handmade lingerie, bondage sets, spiked chokers. Since everything is handmade it takes her 2 - 3 weeks to make the product, but wait is worth it.

Tattoos and Piercing in the Fashion Industry

This blog is more of a personal topic but a very important one in today society. The tattoo industry has sky-rocketed in the last few year, the dailymail.uk wrote an article on this topic, here is the facts from the article: 

28% of middle-class admit to at least one tattoo but 27% of working class
19% of social class AB have some body art
‘The tattoo appears to have transcended traditional class boundaries’ 
Visitors to London Tattoo Convention increased from 3,500 to over 20,000

So at this point what does this have to do with the fashion industry ?

Since I am a student who will be graduating in less than a year from now with a degree in fashion merchandising, many of my teachers have told me that since I have gaged ears, septum ring, and tattoos, I will have no chance with a job in my future. Well this post is to show that they are wrong.

Some of the biggest celebrates are eather heavy or have small tattoos, many are about their families, children or their spiritual beliefs. For example Avenger star Scarlett Johansson has tattoos, one on her right side on the ribs, one her ankle, one on her left arm, and her newest one is around her right wrist, she has also had a septum piercing.

And she still is the face of Dolce and Gabbana advertisements for their perfume and makeup products.

So why isn't ok to be tattooed and be in the fashion or any industry in general ? 

Because the employers are gonna judge you are how you look and not by your education or what you spent on the last 2-4 years trying to achieve. In the last few years I have seen influences of tattoos and the art of tattooing go into designers and even in to couture dresses.

One of the most popular designers with tattoo designs was Ed Hardy by Christian Audigier. The Ed Hardy boom started back in 2009, many celebrates started to wear this brand including Madonna,Alessandra Ambrosio, and Coco. Ed Hardy had growth in the past few years, but now Ed Hardy is getting a bad rep for a clothing line that "douchebags" wear. 

In the past 2 years designers have had models men and woman walk the runways of Paris,Milan, Tokyo, and New York who are heavily tattooed. They have walked for Saint Laurent, Rick Owens, Diesel Black Gold. 

I feel like their is a place in fashion for both tattoos and Piercings
